USWNT Announce Roster for June Friendlies; Kelley O’Hara Called Up
On Thursday, the U.S. Women’s National Team announced it’s roster for it’s two game “Scandinavian series” in early June. Jill Ellis and the U.S. will travel to Scandinavia for matches against Sweden on June 8 (1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and UDN) and against Norway on June 11 (1 p.m. ET on FOX). It was also announced that all NWSL players on the roster would be playing their June 3rd matches before traveling with the team.
“I have enjoyed watching the league games, but it will be great to get the players back together,” said Ellis. “This will be a quick trip against two very good teams in final preparations for the Euros, so I’m looking forward to seeing how we respond to these two quality opponents.”
Sky Blue FC’s Kelley O’Hara earned the lone national team call-up for the Jersey girls. Some other notable call-ups include Abbey Smith of the Boston Breakers (first call-up) and Sydney Leroux of the FC Kansas City (last made a roster in October of 2015 due to the birth of her child. Both goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris of the Orlando Pride (hip flexor) and midfielder Tobin Heath of the Portland Thorns (back) were unavailable for selection.
