News: Alessandro Nesta named head coach of Miami FC

Miami FC confirmed rumors this morning that Alessandro Nesta would become the club’s first-ever head coach for their 2016 inaugural campaign.  Nesta, 39, is widely considered one soccer’s greatest centerbacks, having put in about a decade each at Lazio and Milan and earning 78 call-ups with the Italian national team.  Paolo Maldini, Miami’s co-owner, referred to his relationship with Nesta in the announcement, having played with him at Milan and at the international level: “As a former teammate and personal friend of Alessandro, I have a great amount of respect for his talent and believe that he will bring out the best in our players.” This announcement comes weeks after the unveiling of Miami’s new crest, and reinforces the expectation of a 2016 launch for the expansion side.  No other front office or roster announcements were made as of this time.
